This group project was one of my assignments during our graduate program, where our goal was to implement the concepts of game design, and create a game with many mechanics and systems. In addition to this, we created a documentation that gives a postmortem analysis of our work done for the game.

Cell Rush is based on a tower defense game with the theme of the human immune system. In this game, the player will act as the controller of the immune system. Health is a cost, which can be used to deploy appropriate defense cells to attack the virus. If a virus is successfully killed, the health will be restored. The game consists of the following mechanics, which can be done at the cost of health:

  1. Build Tower - Player can build 4 different types of towers.

  2. Merging Tower - Player can merge 2 basic towers to get a more powerful tower with new functions to kill the virus.

  3. Upgrade Tower - A basic tower can be upgraded to do more damage.

  4. Demolish Tower - The tower is destroyed, and the cell space becomes empty.

As a team of 6, we worked together to make this amazing game. My roles in making the game were as follows:

  • Worked on the code for tower detection(To detect nearby towers).

  • Created the user interface of the game which consists of buttons(Pause/Play, Build tower, Upgrade, Merge, Destroy) and drop-down menus(Merge tower options). And linked the same to their respective functions in our code.

  • Performed many playtests to understand the working of the game, and analyze errors & bugs.

While this game doesn't appear to be perfect, it is still an amazing game with great artwork and a bone-chilling background music.
