New World : Aeternum - Console Launch

Released in Oct 2024
Role - AI Combat Designer
In 2024, Amazon Games took a massive initiative to improve the game's existing technology, add controller and game-pad support, and provide new and existing players a cleaner and improved experience of the game. This version of the game was rebranded to be known as New World : Aeternum, and the main goal was to make this game available to play on consoles like Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. For this launch I contributed to the following:
Reworked AI Combat for the Main Storyline:
I was in charge of reworking the combat experience for solo players navigating through the world and fighting enemies to progress through the storyline and reach max level. This involved re-tuning health and damage values, addition of a reworked hit reaction system, and improved mechanics for all AI characters in the world. This also extended to reworking storyline boss fights in order to make things straightforward for single players.
Target Lock Implementation for Enemies:
In order to make the game controller friendly, the player experience team created the target lock system that all players can use to lock onto all types of enemies. I collaborated with the player team to add and refine the use of target lock on several AI characters and bosses so that the camera locked view of the enemy feels appropriate during combat.
Daily Soul Trials:
I worked with the world and expeditions team to help setup the Daily Soul Trials feature which is a repeatable endgame activity for solo players. They can replay soul trial boss fights that were made for the main storyline, but upgraded to the endgame level so that players have a challenging experience and can earn higher level rewards.
